Volunteer Spotlight – Meet Mike Stinson
Mike Stinson grew up in North Omaha and graduated from Benson High School. He found his way to Lincoln, Nebraska where he completed his Master’s Degree and worked as a Counselor for Lincoln Public Schools. After retiring from the schools, he returned to Omaha and now lives in the Florence area. Wanting to give back to the community that nurtured him, he read an article about the inspired work of “No More Empty Pots” and applied to volunteer. He especially appreciates how the organization provides support and education through utilization of our food system.
Mike assists with deliveries for the NMEP Community Market Basket Program, helping the community have better access to fresh, local produce. When he’s not volunteering with No More Empty Pots, he volunteers for “WhyArts” and studies and writes haiku poetry. Mike has numerous poems published in online and print journals, and wrote this haiku as a tribute;
sharing warm taters
with our sisters and brothers
no more empty pots
Thank you Mike for all that you do!
