Lamar and Kasandra may have completed the culinary portion of the Culinary Workforce Training Program but they aren’t finished yet. Both participants transitioned from the kitchen to the classroom as they worked on job readiness skills. These skills included refreshing resumes, interviewing techniques and general best practices within the workplace. After completing workforce development training, Lamar and Kasandra moved on to the next step in the program!
Lamar can be found interning downtown at Culprit Cafe & Bakery. For the next four weeks, he will utilize his culinary skills as a foundation to assist in a variety of roles int he restaurant. He’ll get to observe how the kitchen staff use teamwork on the line to provide quality food and quality service. In the future, Lamar hopes to open a restaurant that, like Culprit Cafe & Bakery, focuses on community. His restaurant would provide a dining experience that caters to diabetics. Being a diabetic himself, he sees the need for a restaurant like this where families and friends can go without having to worry if the food is safe to eat.
Kasandra chose a different path after completing culinary skills training in the Culinary Workforce Training Program. She is now enrolled at Metropolitan Community College and will begin working towards an Associates Degree in Culinary Arts in the fall. Additional training will support Kasandra’s goals to start her food truck business in 2019.
We look forward to seeing Lamar and Kasandra excel in their next steps of an internship and enrollment in a more advanced culinary degree program.
