Cyndi Forages Her Way to NMEP!

Cyndi Trail’s expertise and knowledge in foraging is what originally got her interested in No More Empty Pots. She searched for opportunities to get involved and from there, she joined as a production volunteer and began receiving CSA shares through the Community Harvest program. Every week since, she has diligently joined our team at the Food Hub to help prepare and package the same food that she and her husband receive later in the week. She says her favorite product included in the CSA so far is Dutch Girl Creamery cheese and appreciates seeing the program come full circle through volunteering.

Cyndi’s involvement and contribution to NMEP has only grown and diversified over time. She served as a United Way spokesperson for Community Harvest, offered to film a tutorial on making elderberry jam, helped a NMEP staff member identify and remove a poisonous weed from her backyard and will join Cohort 12 of the Culinary Certificate Program this summer!

We’re incredibly grateful for volunteers like Cyndi who are passionate about our mission and willing to leverage their strengths and skills to increase our impact and capacity in the community. We can’t wait to see what Cyndi will do next!

This month, we celebrated the 5 graduates of the Culinary Certificate Program. Students engaged in a hybrid of in-class instruction, virtual instruction and self-paced learning. They learned essential culinary skills then applied them while working side by side with volunteers and staff to execute meal production and packaging. We can’t wait to see what they do next on their culinary journeys.

Congratulations, CCP Graduates!

No More Empty Pots is teaming up with local small farmers in Iowa and Nebraska to relaunch Community Harvest. Individuals, households, groups and companies are all eligible to purchase a subscription. Subscribers will receive weekly “Community Supported Agriculture” (CSA) shares of local produce and/or plant-based meals made from scratch. Please share the invitation with your neighbors, friends and coworkers.

Catering opportunities allow our team to demonstrate the value of prepared local and fresh food while serving and getting to know our neighbors in the community! This month, the Hospitality and Production team catered for a student art show hosted by KANEKO and the Askarben Nebraska team while they visited the Food Hub for a tour.

The 13 & Leavenworth Garden: A Pop-Up Oasis garden is teaming up with the Omaha Symphony to host a Garden Series Concert in June. The Pop-Up Oasis is a collaborative garden space with contributing members across Omaha including NMEP.
