Chef Dario Dines with the Culinary Workforce Training Program

Each week, No More Empty Pots Culinary Workforce Training Program (CWTP) participants prepare meals as part of their training. This family-style meal is a chance for the participants to practice their skills, receive feedback and enjoy the company of community members while they eat. Meatball day hosted a full house for the first time, from children to neighbors to restaurateurs and staff. And what a surprise! Among all those guests was Chef and Owner Dario Schicke of local restaurants Dario’s Brasserie and Avoli Osteria.

While he tasted the food, everyone anxiously waited to hear his thoughts. The verdict: the food was delicious. He was very proud of what the participants accomplished in six weeks of culinary training. After finishing the entrée and dessert, Chef Dario took a moment to speak to each of the participants. He discovered more about their passion for food and what they’ve learned so far. In the kitchen, the participants were interviewed for potential internships at both of Chef Dario’s restaurants.

The impact of Chef Dario and other restaurateurs becoming involved with the CWTP is exponential. Mentorship by culinary professionals increases each trainee’s chances of employment in the culinary field. Gaining employment with a clear career path helps them to get close to their goal to becoming self-sufficient.
