Blues & BBQ Serves It Up

The Annual Blues & BBQ Harvest Party brought out gorgeous weather and a great crowd. All around, people were taking in the sounds of friendly conversation and smooth tones of local band, Domestic Blend. As the music played, guests enjoyed an assortment of local BBQ  including pulled pork, smoked brisket, sausage, baked beans, corn on the cob, coleslaw, potato salad with a side of local beer. Desserts were baked by the NMEP Culinary Workforce Training participants Darianna, NaTeeka and Jean.

No More Empty Pots (NMEP) and the Florence Mill shared updates on programs and projects underway in Florence. The Florence Mill will be rebuilding its Cob Shed, making it fully functional and able to store shucked corn cobs. Phase 2 of the NMEP Collaborative Community Centered Food Hub includes a Community Café, Kid’s Kitchen, Business Incubator and Rooftop Garden, creating spaces to gather, learn, engage and indulge in local foods. Local entrepreneurs will showcase their foods and grow their businesses. Kids will grow and prepare fresh foods, learn about where they come from and how to use them. It will be a place to entertain friends and family all while supporting the local food system.

We’d like to thank First National Bank for sponsoring the event, TLC Down Home Foods and Fat BBQ Shack for providing delicious local food, Brickway Brewery & Distillery for providing tasty local beer and Domestic Blend for playing a wonderful set list. With community support, No More Empty Pots and the Florence Mill raised $3,000 to put toward future projects.
