October's Harvest of the Month is that delicious and delightful fruit we all love... Apples! This week in our CSA, we are featuring the Jonadel Apple from our highlighted producer - Sustainable Sanctuary from Missouri Valley, IA!
Sustainable Sanctuary is your go-to local market in Missouri Valley, Iowa, that bring you the freshest farm-to-table produce, locally sourced meats, dairy, honey and their very own line of small-batch jams, sauces, and more. Their storefront is located at 2348 Loess Hills Trail, 51555. This year, they've already harvested Gala, Honeycrisp and Wealthy apples from their orchard and of course, the Jonadel apple! Visit their website for location, hours and to sign up for news and updates: https://www.ssfarmiowa.com/
Now, for the star - Jonadel Apples! Interestingly and clever enough, the Jonadel apple is a mix of the Jonathan and Red Delicious apple and was created at Iowa State University in 1923! The Jonadel apple is sweet and slightly tart and is described as juicy and crisp. Due to this the Jonadel is wonderful to eat as it comes or use it to make yummy pies and jams! Store them in cool places until you are ready to enjoy!
