On the first day of after-school programming, we met Zoe, a lively early elementary student brimming with energy! She happily talked about her favorite foods, hesitating only briefly on broccoli—until she remembered how much she loves it when her mom cooks it.
That day, the No More Empty Pots facilitators taught a lesson on plant parts, and Zoe’s enthusiasm never wavered. She eagerly tried new foods, played games, and stayed longer even after the lesson had ended. Zoe kept chatting about the lesson, proudly showing her curiosity and excitement for local plants and gardening. Before heading home, she even burst into a spirited cheer for her school's mascot and chanted, "Let's go, Cougars, let's go!"
Zoe's story reflects the confidence and community spirit that our programming fosters in youth. It’s a reminder that when students are engaged in meaningful, interactive education, they build enthusiasm for learning!
This school year, the No More Empty Pots Community Education team will deliver weekly lessons at Morton Middle School, Central Park Elementary, and Druid Hill Elementary.
We’re excited to watch the year ahead unfold and see the impact made on all the young learners like Zoe.
