Chive Pancakes

Chives are a part of the onion family and grown wild are native to Europe, Asia, and northern North America. You may have heard of Chinese Chives as well, which refers to garlic chives. Chives are a great natural remedy to oust parasitic worms as well as prevent cancer. In this recipe, chives are used to make savory pancakes which are a big part of Korean home cooking.

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dipping sauce by mixing vinegar, water, sugar, black pepper, and soy sauce. 
  2. Set aside in the fridge to cool. 
  3. Cut the chives, onions, and chiles. 
  4. Make the batter. In a large bowl combine cornstarch, flour, salt, turmeric and mix well. 
  5. Pour in 1 cup of ice cold water while mixing. 
  6. If you prefer the batter to be runnier, add in the remaining water as needed. 
  7. Mix batter until no clumps of flour remain. 
  8. Mix in your chives, onions, and chiles. 
  9. In a large frying pan, heat up some oil. 
  10. Once the pan is hot, add in half the batter or enough batter to almost fill the pan and spread evenly. 
  11. Cook for 5 to 6 minutes or until golden brown and flip. 
  12. Cook for another 5 to 6 minutes. 
  13. Remove from the pan onto a tray or big plate. 
  14. Repeat with the rest of the batter. 
  15. Cut pancakes into smaller pieces and serve dipping sauce.
