Every gift counts!
FOOD IS A CATALYST FOR CHANGE
Opportunities for transformative growth are created through a robust, local and closed-loop food system. When everyone is able to participate through the cultivation of their own unique strengths, our community is better for it.
Stories experienced by the people impacted are the living proof.
STUDENT TO TEACHER
In early 2019, Meya left a corporate job to follow her passion for cooking. She first engaged with NMEP as a culinary student where she demonstrated her passion for teaching and helping others succeed. Today, she serves as the Culinary Certificate Program Coordinator and has helped mentor and coach over 21 students to follow in her footsteps, graduate and take the first steps of their culinary careers.
SCARCITY TO CHOICE
Every week, Alexie is able to purchase the food she prefers for her family through Community Harvest. She stretches her SNAP budget by purchasing local fresh produce from NMEP. "I love that Community Harvest is focused on community and accessibility," she said. "Getting a variety of healthy foods that fit into my budget is super important to my family." Her SNAP purchase is reinvested into the local farmers who grow the produce sourced in each box.
James, age 10, participated in a Community Education workshop provided by NMEP at a local school in South Omaha where he learned his way around the kitchen for the first time. His inexperience made him shy but soon he was emboldened by his newfound abilities to be independent. Since participating, James has recreated recipes for his family and is more willing to try new unfamiliar foods.
