Sweet Potato & Turnip Mash

Mashed potatoes are one of my favorite comfort foods. They are rather easy to make and don’t take a lot of time. Mix it up and try using other root vegetables that may be new to you! Depending on what vegetables I am using, I like to enhance the flavor of the butter by adding fresh herbs!

  • 1 large sweet potato, peeled and cut
  • 2 large turnips, peeled and cut
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Fresh sage, chopped
  • 1 green onion, thinly sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 Place cut turnips and potatoes in a large pot.
  • 2 Fill with water, add salt and fresh herbs.
  • 3 Bring to a boil.
  • 4 Cover and simmer for about 20 minutes or until fork - tender.
  • 5 Drain water and add veggies back to the pot.
  • 6 Heat a small pan over medium heat. Add butter and let it melt.
  • 7 Add sage leaves to flavor butter for about 1 minute.
  • 8 Pour butter over veggies and add salt, pepper, other seasonings as needed.
  • 9 Mash with a fork or mashing utensil until well mixed.
  • 10 Top with some green onions and serve.
